LOCAL VOLUNTEERING

The Arts Society Wimbledon is run entirely by volunteers, they offer their time and energy to help celebrate the Arts. If anyone is interested in volunteering please contact the Chairman at info@artsocwim.org.uk

In order to be covered by our insurance, our volunteers are required to become members of The Arts Society. From time to time we are able to offer Arts and Heritage volunteer positions in the community.  Some of these opportunities may be short term, some may be local, others are further way.  More recently an opportunity to take part in a project working from home was available. When we have details of such opportunities we will post them here on this site.

But for details of the latest projects in London you can contact volunteering@theartssociety.org

Our Local Community

There are other organisations in Wimbledon unrelated to the Arts, and therefore not covered by our insurance, but who are actively looking for volunteers and we list a few below.

Opportunities for Volunteering with the Friends of Cannizaro Park

We have passionate and engaged volunteer teams.

The Gardening Volunteers meet on Tuesday mornings and work in teams on a variety of tasks; you don’t need any specific gardening skills, but a keen interest and a readiness to join in and turn your hand to whatever job needs doing.

Volunteering with the Friends of Wimbledon & Putney Commons

Please contact Peter Haldane peter@wpcc.org.uk for more information.  Volunteers would be welcomed in any of the following areas.

Mid-week Volunteer Estate Team: This group meet at 10am and each activity takes place until approximately 12:30pm. Activities vary throughout the year. All events take place on  a Wednesday morning.

Beverley Brook volunteer litter picking group. This group of volunteers meet every three weeks on a Tuesday morning and each event starts at 10am and ends at 12:30pm. We provide waders, litter sticks, and litter bags and all events are led by a full-time member of the Commons’ team.

Sunday morning volunteer scrub bashers. This group of volunteers meet on two Sunday mornings each moth (10am to 12pm) where they are involved in helping to cut back invasive scrub on the heathland. Dates for this group are circulated every three months and all volunteers are requested to let me know at the beginning of the preceding week whether they would like to attend the next event.

Volunteer litter picking: This is an activity that is always of great help on the Commons (especially during the warmer months of the year) and as it is entirely self-led, it can be carried out at a time of the volunteers choosing. Litter sticks and litter bags can be collected from the Rangers Office (SW19 5NR) between 9am and 5pm.

Wildlife recording: We have recently increased the Commons Conservation team to two members of staff. The newest member of the team will be responsible for co-ordinating wildlife recording on the Commons and although they are only recently in post, in time, they will be asked to work with volunteers to monitor across the site. Although we are at the very early stages of this project, it would be great to hear from any interested people who may wish to help us in the future.

Volunteering at the Wimbledon Society

You can help us to ensure that Wimbledon remains a green and pleasant place to live. If you like to fundraise, organise events and outings, or have an interest in planning matters, or just love admin, there may be a role for you if you can spare a few hours per month.

For further information email: info@wimbledonsociety.org.uk

Volunteering at Wimbledon Museum

You must be 18 years old or over, and because access to the museum is restricted, please contact us first if you are disabled or if you have additional support needs. Each role requires different time commitments, and these will depend on each role. Obligations are not too onerous, and we can always be flexible to fit in with your availability. Once you have been a volunteer for at least 6 months, we will be happy to supply references. Our Museum is run and staffed by volunteers.

If you’d like to get involved, please email  museuminfo@wimbledonsociety.org.uk
